Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine inspected the readiness of the main arena for Eurovision-2017

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Viacheslav Kyrylenko, along with the press, visited the International Exhibition Center (IEC), the home arena of Eurovision-2017, and inspected the process of its preparation for the music competition. This event took place today, April 11th. Pavlo Grytsak, Executive Producer of Eurovision-2017, Ola Melzig, Head of Production of this year’s Song Contest, Christer Bjorkman, Contest Producer, Dmytro Feliksov, representative of the official ticket sales agent Concert.ua, and Ukrainian and foreign press representatives participated in this tour. The official spokesperson for Eurovision 2017, Pavlo Shylko, was the press – tour moderator.

During this visit Deputy Prime Minister familiarized himself with the readiness of the Song Contest main arena for the show to be held in May. Along with the members of the press, who attended the IEC, he observed how the stage construction was done, how the spectator seats were installed, and how the so-called "green-room" was mounted.

During the briefing Vyacheslav Kyrylenko said that the government is fulfilling all its obligations in regard to the proper preparation for Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

"All construction, organizational and pertinent issues are being addressed in a timely manner and are being solved effectively to insure the production of this fantastic event in May. One can feel the great atmosphere here on the grounds – where Ukrainian and foreign specialists work together. From the very beginning of the Contest preparations the spirit of Eurovision could be felt here in Kiev", – said Vyacheslav Kirilenko.

Executive Producer of Eurovision-2017 Pavlo Hrycak stated: "All the jobs inside the IEC and beyond its premises are being carried out very intensively, as the first show of Eurovision Song Contest 2017 will happen in less than a month. The first set of stand-in rehearsals on stage will start in 9 days. We are gladly looking forward to the arrival of all participating countries delegations, and we will do everything possible to make their stay in Kiev pleasant and comfortable, and the shows – unforgettable".

Ola Melzig, Head of Production of Eurovision 2017, conveyed that the Eurovision-2017 contest stage weighs around 30 tons and the platform where contestants will perform has an area of 350 square meters. The stage has the largest screen that has ever been built in Ukraine. A specially designed central part of the stage called the beehive allows each metal girder of the stage structure to move independently, fall or rise during the show or in between the performances. This makes it possible to change the geometry of the scene in order to create unique performances for each of the participants.

"This year we are building a stage of a considerable size. Its height is 14 meters, width – 70 meters and depth is 28 meters. All lighting fixtures, there are about 1800 of them, are already installed, the majority of which has already been put into operation. All the video elements are also installed already, shortly we plan to install pyrotechnics around the stage and tomorrow we will start programming all the lighting equipment to be used during the shows. Besides the above mentioned work, we are completing the installation of press center and delegation bubble in the first pavilion, where the press center will begin working in little more than two weeks. Its premises will host about 1,500 accredited journalists and 500 accredited fans", – said Eurovision-2017 Head of Production Ola Melzig.

The so-called green-room area will be mounted directly across the stage where participants will be able to come after their performances and where the host of the show, Tymur Myroshnychenko, will wait for them. In general, the spectator seating area will accommodate around 7,000 visitors. The seating area is built in accordance with both Ukrainian and European construction standards. The total weight of the structure is 450 tons, the size of the area it will occupy is slightly above 6000 square meters. Maximum height of the structural elements is 11.5 meters, the number of scaffold pieces used is about 40 000. The seating area will be equipped with Solara model chairs made by Irwin Seating.

There will be 25 special seats reserved in two spectator sectors for people with disabilities, as well as for the people who accompany them. Access to these sectors will be equipped with special ramps, which meet the state building codes specifications (angle of inclination, width, etc.).

As for the part of the show, that concerns contestants performances, Christer Bjorkman, Contest Producer of Eurovision-2017 commented, "We have two very specific goals. The first goal is to express the vision of 43 countries who arrive full of expectations and who deserve the best attitude towards their productions. As for the show itself, we have the objective of the same importance. It is to give a reason to every Ukrainian to be proud of this show. Besides these two goals, we really need to reach nothing else. Our desire is that everybody would be proud of this show - all participants and the audience, both in Ukraine and in Europe".

About the process of contestants entries preparation Christer said: "We contact all the contestants and they convey to us the vision of their entries both through drawings and photos, or through video materials. We collect all these materials and decide how to implement these ideas practically. Participant requests vary a lot. Often they mention the provision of various props, decorations on stage, such as ladders or a picture of the moon. They can also request a particular lighting effect or a special camera effect, such as a rain. My team’s assignment is to implement into life all these requests to make their entry look it’s greatest".

As for tickets for Eurovision-2017 shows, the representative of the official ticket sales agent Dmytro Feliksov said that tickets sales are progressing well. The most popular shows so far are the semi-finals and finals, and the two full-dress rehearsals before the final show. He added: "Yesterday, at 7 p.m. his sales office received another batch of tickets – about two thousand for the fan zone, these tickets were sold within a short time. Overall, as of today, about 30.000 tickets have been sold, another 19.000 tickets booked for the members of the participant countries delegations and there are about 21.000 tickets available to buy now or will be for sale soon".

It should be noted that the concerts called rehearsals are complete shows almost identical to those that will be live. They have their own advantages. For example, a daytime full-dress rehearsal before the semi-finals (4 p.m.) or the final (2 p.m.), is the most convenient show for families with children. All the other shows start at 10 p.m. In addition to all mentioned above, this is a unique event, because Ukraine, like other countries, does not host Eurovision frequently. It is an incredible opportunity to see this show for yourself.

Lets recall that in addition to the main stage and auditorium, the IEC will accommodate a press center and a zone for delegations. On April 8th all the necessary pavilions were redesignated to accommodate the Eurovision contest. The first pavilion, which has been converted into a press center will hold about 1,500 accredited journalists from different countries and 500 accredited fans.

Also lets recall that the semi-finals of Eurovision-2017 will be held on May 9th and 11th. The final show will take place on May 13th. All shows will be held in the International Exhibition Center (IEC).
